A forum for meaningful conversation

At our August 2025 Powered By Us: Black Generosity in Memphis Symposium during Black Philanthropy Month, the Community Foundation hosted its first-ever Black Philanthropic Advisor Roundtable—a gathering of Black wealth managers, attorneys, accountants, and other professionals who help guide charitable giving. The conversation was rich and insightful, underscoring the vital role advisors play in shaping how generosity is expressed.

A diverse group of seven adults, including a Black Philanthropic Advisor, sit in a row engaged in discussion. One speaks animatedly while others listen attentively, holding notebooks and pens against a plain gray wall background.

Advisors at the table reminded us that Black giving has always been strong, yet philanthropy doesn’t always surface naturally in advisor-client conversations.

They also shared practical ways the Community Foundation can better support their work, including:

  • Creating more opportunities for connection among advisors and the Foundation
  • Approaching the work with mutual intentionality—learning from and partnering with one another
  • Ensuring Black communities are aware of and have access to philanthropic tools, such as donor-advised funds, and highlighting ways to support Black-led organizations

That first roundtable conversation was just the beginning. We are committed to deepening these conversations and finding meaningful ways to support Black advisors and the clients they serve, while strengthening philanthropy across our region.
