A return to 1900 Union Avenue

After nearly two years temporarily relocated to Crosstown Concourse, we are thrilled to announce that the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis is coming home in July 2026.

Moving back to our historic Midtown home

A modern building with a stone facade and large glass windows is illuminated at dusk. People are visible inside and outside. Trees and parked cars line the foreground, and birds are flying in the colorful evening sky.

The front façade and historical, architectural integrity of our building at the northeast corner of Union and Barksdale remains the same, while its interior has been reimagined to better serve donors, staff, our nonprofit sector, and the community.

After nearly two years temporarily relocated to Crosstown Concourse, we are thrilled to announce that the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis is coming home.

Our historic building at 1900 Union Avenue has undergone a complete transformation—reimagined from the ground up by architect archimania and builder Grinder Taber Grinder to better reflect who we are and better serve the community we love. The result is a space that is a physical philanthropic hub for this community, and we cannot wait for you to experience it.

As we prepare to return, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Our offices will be completely closed July 4–12, returning the morning of July 13. This gives our team a much-needed break and the time to make the move. Emails and requests received during this period will be answered the week of July 13. Don’t worry! Grants will still go out in July—so rest assured that a response delay during the transition won’t affect your funding to nonprofits.
  • We will begin welcoming visitors back to 1900 Union the week of July 20. We ask for just a little grace as we get resettled—but we truly cannot wait to see you walk through the doors.
  • Fundholders: If you are making gifts of securities in July, you can work through your professional advisors as you normally do to transfer those assets. If you want to send cash, you can either add funds through the DonorView portal or you may mail a check to our secure lockbox. Please note: do NOT send any checks to either our Crosstown or Union addresses. This will delay processing. As a reminder, our lockbox address is:

    Community Foundation of Greater Memphis
    Dept. 78
    P.O. Box 1000
    Memphis, TN 38148-0078
  • For our nonprofit friends…yes, the Gid Smith Community Room is coming back! However, we won’t be ready to welcome groups back to the building until later in the fall. Make sure that you are signed up for the LIVEGIVEmidsouth eNews for the latest on its reopening and how you can reserve the space.

We are deeply grateful for your patience and support throughout this journey. We look forward to the next 57+ years of strengthening our community through philanthropy—and to doing it from a home that truly reflects the heart of that mission.
