Helping students succeed

The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis is proud to offer financial support to help students pursue their educational dreams and create thriving futures. Most scholarship awards are for students from Shelby County, Tennessee. Applicants must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university or an accredited vocational or technical institution and demonstrate academic achievement, and economic need.

Specific schools scholarships

High school or college-specific scholarships created to honor the legacy and impact of schools across our region

This scholarship benefits graduating high school seniors who attend Memphis Shelby County Schools high schools and will attend LeMoyne-Owen College.

This scholarship assists at least one student annually from the Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering and/or a Memphis Shelby County Schools high school. This includes charter schools, contract schools, and public high schools within Shelby County Schools.

This scholarship is for qualified history graduate students at the University of Memphis; preference given to students with a concentration in Latin American studies. Apply by February 1 at cfgm.org/gillaspie

This scholarship provides support to African-American, graduating high school seniors from Booker T. Washington, Hamilton, or Melrose High Schools and/or Metropolitan Baptist Church or Macedonia Baptist M.B. Church (Hyde Park) in Memphis, Tennessee.

This scholarship provides financial support to graduates of Raleigh-Egypt High School who have the interest and drive to pursue higher education, but who may not be able to further their education without financial support.

This scholarship is for undergraduate and graduate students from Yadkin County, NC, studying at a community college, college, or university.

This scholarship, started in 1993 by several of Dr. Westbrook’s former students, annually benefits one Melrose High School student.

This scholarship honors the memory of Ruth Holmes Mims and enables deserving students majoring in education to attend LeMoyne-Owen College or the University of Memphis.

Scholarships specifically for students attending historically Black colleges and universities

This scholarship benefits graduating high school seniors who attend Memphis Shelby County Schools high schools and will attend LeMoyne-Owen College.

This scholarship honors the memory of Ruth Holmes Mims and enables deserving students majoring in education

to attend LeMoyne-Owen College or the University of Memphis.

This scholarship benefits a Memphis-area student enrolled at LeMoyne-Owen College or any other accredited historically Black college or university (HBCU).

Field of study scholarships

Scholarships for students with demonstrated participation in specific interests or who are pursuing majors and careers in specific fields

This scholarship honors the work of Usher Abell and Jack Abell in the realm of stringed music education, student mentoring, and increased access to instruments and quality teachers for all who want to learn. It is for students enrolled in or currently pursuing college coursework consistent with a degree in music string performance.

This scholarship assists at least one student annually from charter schools, contract schools, and public high schools within Memphis Shelby County Schools who plan to major in math, science, or engineering in college.

This scholarship honors Mildred Galloway and is awarded to a student from Memphis Shelby County Schools whose high school study is in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences.

This scholarship honors Maxine A. Smith and is awarded to graduating high school seniors who have participated in the ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics) program.

The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis offers a scholarship to one or more outstanding students living in the metropolitan Memphis area who are civically engaged.

The scholarship honors Mrs. Constance Butler Goforth and is awarded to applicants displaying academic excellence, community service, and financial need.

This scholarship is for students who want to pursue an education in order to better their lives and who otherwise might not have the opportunity to attend college. Applicants should have volunteer or work experience.

This scholarship assists well-rounded, public high school students living in Shelby County, Tenn., who demonstrate strong character and are actively involved in school and the community.

This scholarship fund advances the educational opportunities of African American students in Fayette County to create a more just nation and world. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to serving the African American community in Fayette County, Tennessee, or in the United States.

This scholarship honors Mykea Andrea Rainey and is awarded to public school students to help achieve the dream of completing a post-secondary education. Applicants must be involved in the community through volunteer activities with a nonprofit or other community group.

This scholarship provides support to further the post-secondary education of students residing in a non-traditional home. Applicants must be involved in the community through volunteer activities with a nonprofit or other community group.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior that lives or attends school or church in the 38106, 38114, 38126, or 38127 ZIP codes, where Ann lived, worked and attended church. Applicants must be involved in the community through volunteer activities with a nonprofit or other community group.

Vo-Tech scholarships

Scholarships available for students pursuing trade or technical education. Note that most are also open to two- or four-year college or university students.

This fund offers scholarships for post-secondary undergraduate education for legally dependent children of regular, full-time employees of Binswanger Enterprises who have completed at least one year of service with the company. The awards must be used to pay for tuition and school expenses for post-high school courses in accredited trade schools, colleges, or junior colleges, for up to four years of undergraduate study.

This scholarship fund advances the educational opportunities of African- American students in Fayette County to create a more just nation and world. Applicants must be accepted to a college, university, or vocational school.

This scholarship provides adults the opportunity to pursue higher education later in life. Applicants must be accepted by and plan to attend an accredited vocational or technical school, two-year, or four-year college or university in the greater Memphis area.

This scholarship provides for the children of parents with disabilities. The applicant’s study may be in any academic area. Applicants must be accepted by and plan to attend an accredited vocational or technical school, two-year, or four-year college or university.

This scholarship provides educational assistance to African-American males who wish to pursue a vocational or technical career.

This fund provides scholarship opportunities to solid waste employees of the City of Memphis and their families. Applicants must be accepted by and plan to attend an accredited vocational or technical school, two-year, or four-year college or university.
