Black Philanthropy Month
We are proud to participate in an annual global celebration and campaign held every August to uplift and promote Black giving, leadership, and investment in communities worldwide.
Join the movement
Black Philanthropy Month is more than a moment—it’s a movement that uplifts Black leadership, champions equity in funding, and inspires us to invest in our communities.
In August and throughout the year, we highlight the power of Black generosity, promote funding equity, and inspire collective action—because lasting change starts with intentional investment.

Get involved
The 2026 Symposium focused on building Black Generational Wealth will be Friday, August 14. The interactive and affirming day for Black givers and nonprofits is at capacity.
Give 8/28 is a national, focused day of giving to Black-led and Black-benefiting organizations. Donate to a favorite nonprofit or discover a new one to support on August 28.
Promote the Give 8/28 campaign to your networks, share your story, and direct supporters to LIVEGIVEmidsouth—where organizations, including yours, can be discovered and supported
About Black Philanthropy Month
Black Philanthropy Month is an annual celebration and campaign held every August to uplift and promote Black giving, leadership, and investment in communities worldwide.
Founded in 2011 by Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland with the Pan-African Women’s Philanthropy Network, BPM is designed to:
- Highlight the contributions of Black philanthropists, changemakers, and donors.
- Promote funding equity and amplify calls for racial justice in philanthropy.
- Encourage Black giving through community, corporate, and individual efforts.
- Foster dialogue and action around policy, access to capital, and community investment.
In 2025, the global Black Philanthropy Month officially merged under BackBlack, a movement to direct capital, grow capacity, and build community for Black-led nonprofits.
The Community Foundation has helped shape a Memphis-area celebration since 2021.

We’re Home
